Bavarian Optics has developed a system called Sollektor for bringing sunlight indoors using POF and hybrid light fixtures.

As one of the killer applications of plastic optical fiber, lighting takes full advantage of the medium’s flexibility and transmissive properties.

In addition to high-speed data links that are unaffected by electromagnetic fields, fiber optics are an important component of various medical sensors and instruments. Image: Andy G / Flickr (source) (CC BY-SA 2.0)

The inexpensive and versatile nature of POF has lent itself to a wide spectrum of creative and unique lighting uses.
