How can fiber optic cable connectors be cleaned?
Generally, a dry cloth or isopropyl alcohol wipe can be used to remove contaminants from a fiber optic cable connector to ensure the best optical performance of the cable.
Once clean, a dust cap should be placed over the connector to protect the surface and prevent contaminants from accumulating on the surface again.
Because the core of GOF is very small in diameter (on the order of 50 μm), extreme care must be taken when cleaning a connector’s mating surface so as to not break the core. POF has a much larger core diameter (typically 1000 μm), making it less fragile and more tolerant to handling.
