Schleuniger Automatic Inline Cable Processing

FiberFin production starts with Schleuniger high-end automated cable processing equipment. We regularly use the following:

  • PowerStrip 9500 rotary saw with pre-feeder PF2500 and automated cable coiler CC2000
  • PowerStrip 9500 with pre-feeder PF2200 and cable coiler CC1000
  • PowerStrip 9500 with pre-feeder PF2000 and FiberFin cable coiler
  • OmniStrip 9450 with pre-feeder PF1000 and FiberFin cable coiler

We have one PowerStrip 9500 equipped with a rotary saw to cut the cable to length instead of stock V-blades. Depending on the material of the fiber cable, different types of saw blades, rotational speeds, and feed rates can be set up for best cutting results. This ensures that all of our cables have consistent surface smoothness with burr-free ends.

Production and Testing Equipment

  • Pneumatic crimping machines (7) – Schleuniger CT-42 machines that use our patented crimp and swage technologies
  • Video microscope – Microscope for inspecting optical fiber parts, with image capture capabilities, allowing inspection results to be shared with customers.
  • Load/tensile strength test station – AMADA 220 lb-rated test station with all necessary tooling
  • dB loss testing – Advanced Fiber Solutions test equipment for 650nm and 850 nm with all necessary couplers and test cables
  • Ultrasonic welder – Hermann 20 kHz, 2000 watt ultrasonic welder
  • Brady label printers – Bradly label hardware and software is used for all of FiberFin’s cable assemblies

  • FiberFin 2 – Custom-built finishing machine for fiber up to 2mm in diameter
  • FiberFin 4 – Custom-built finishing machines designed for maximum output and consistency. Available for lease in our online catalog
  • FiberFin 5 – Custom-built finishing machine for fiber up to 5mm in diameter
  • FiberFin 10 – Custom-built finishing machine for fiber up to 10mm in diameter
  • FiberFin 140 – Custom-built finishing machine for fiber up to 140mm in diameter, incorporating cryo-finishing method
  • Cut-to-length/respool machine – For cutting and spooling orders of custom fiber lengths
  • Cut-to-length machine – Automated machine for producing short light pipes and medical instruments
  • Automated hotplate – Hotplate system that incorporates high-precision temperature control for finishing SMI connectors
  • Ferrule drill – Semi-automated ferrule drilling apparatus

FiberFin’s operations take place in a 7,000 square foot facility, with state-of-the-art workstations for each stage of the FiberFin® process, from research and development to production.
