FIRST Robotics
U.S. FIRST is a non-profit organization, founded to ignite and inspire the minds of young people through robotics. Often described as the “varsity sport of the mind”, FIRST Robotics Competition combines the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology. Under strict rules, limited resources, and time constraints, teams of students are challenged to raise funds, design a team brand, and hone teamwork skills. It is a close to real-world engineering as a student can get. Volunteer professional mentors can lend their time and talents to guide a team.
During the 2012-2013 school year, FiberFin became a mentor and sponsor of Yorkville High School’s FIRST robotics competition team, Foximus Prime 3695. Paul Mulligan, CEO of FiberFin, was an integral mentor for the team. According to Paul, “These kids are the future. Adults and kids working together to solve a problem is an amazing experience. It is a spirited atmosphere of collaboration and team work. It is remarkable to watch these kids design, program, and build a robot to meet the challenges of the competition.”
